Malverne Community Honors the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Jan. 15, Malverne School District came together for a powerful and reflective evening during its 40th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, honoring the enduring impact of Dr. King’s words, vision and leadership.
Students from across the district shared meaningful tributes through music and multimedia presentations, highlighting Dr. King’s messages of unity, justice and hope, and demonstrating how his teachings continue to resonate with young people today.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award to two distinguished members of the Malverne community: Dr. Lorna Lewis, former Superintendent of Schools, and Camille Emeagwali. Both honorees delivered inspiring speeches reflecting on how Dr. King’s teachings influenced their personal journeys and set them on a lifelong path of advocacy, leadership and service to others.
The district thanks all students, staff, families and community members who participated in and supported this meaningful celebration.
