As NASA was launching the Artemis 1 rocket into space, Downing students were embarking on a challenge devised by engineers at NASA to build study towers made with only straws and tape.

This activity is part of NASA’s STEM educational program, which aims to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and math by aligning with NASA missions.

Kindergarten through second grade students worked together to complete their missions, which earned them a “Straw Tower Award” from NASA.
