The sun shined bright on an extra fun and festive Field Day at Downing today!

Our students enjoyed all the activities and games and we took some time to acknowledge that this is the final Field Day for our amazing principal Mr. Tallon who will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Thank you Mr. Tallon for making Downing the special place that it is today!

Davison Avenue was proud to welcome our incoming 3rd graders for a special orientation event!

Students were greeted by their new teachers and got comfortable in their new classrooms. They watched a video made by our current 3rd graders and read a book about how kindness is a superpower. They also got crafty and made superhero masks to remind us to be kind.

To help with the transition, our kind and helpful 3rd graders also made them a pamphlet on how to be successful in 3rd grade.

MHS students in the Black Studies Club and Juneteenth Jubilee planning committee traveled to Downing to visit with K-2 classrooms and help initiate meaningful conversations about black history and the origin of the Juneteenth holiday.

The high schoolers read books to the younger students, showed presentations and answered questions about Juneteenth.

Before heading back to the high school, the guests were treated to a song by the 2nd grade Glee Club. Members of the high school Select Choir reciprocated with an impromptu performance of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," which is often referred to as the Black National Anthem.

On May 21, the immense talent and creativity of our students was on display for the community to enjoy at the annual district Celebration of the Arts exhibition!

The high school gym was filled to the brim with wide variety of art created by students from throughout the district under the guidance of our amazing art educators.

We are proud of all our young artists who put time, energy and feeling into their works of art and thank you to the art teachers who spent days curating this outstanding exhibit!
