Students in the 8th grade Science Research class at Howard T. Herber are hard at work completing experimental trials in preparation for competition season. Months of preparatory work, from exploring the fundamentals of research to selecting topics and designing experiments led to this point.

The students were excited to use this new tool as they focused on improving their math skills right before the holiday break.

On Dec. 19, Malverne School District was honored to host the Key of Hope South African Choir for performances at Maurice W. Downing Primary School, Davison Avenue Intermediate School and Malverne High School.
The Key of Hope Choir consists of singers aged 12-27 who live in Durban, South Africa, an extremely impoverished village where most families don’t even have the yearly fee of $175 that it cost to send their kids to school. Key of Hope helps families find their way out of poverty, helping enroll the children in school, keeping them safe from crime and oppression and engaging them in music and arts.
The performances for students and faculty included traditional holiday songs, as well as songs in their native Zulu language. At the high school, the choir also performed popular songs from U2 and Foreigner.
The visit was both energizing and inspiring and we are so thankful to the choir members and Key of Hope team for coming to Malverne and sharing their songs and spirit with our students.

We are proud to congratulate Gabrielle Augustin, Makayla Boubert, Coleene Elias and Coralie Mitton who were honored at last night's the annual Kwanzaa Celebration hosted by the Office of Minority Affairs. Last night's theme was "Be a Beacon of Light for a Brighter Future" and our students were recognized for their inspirational efforts to uplift our community. Qualifications to be considered for this honor are 90 + GPA, community involvement, and excellency in leadership. #GreatnessUnleashed

A magical tradition continued today at Downing as Conductor Walter took our kindergartners on a fantastical holiday journey aboard the "Polar Express!"
Our little travelers each received tickets and had them punched before entering the gym, where Mr. Walter was waiting to share with them this holiday tale complete with music and sound effects to bring the imaginary trip to life in our minds.
After the story was over, the students got off the train and went back to their classrooms where a special holiday gift was waiting!

Last weekend, the Pride of Malverne Marching Band showed off their festive holiday spirit, songs and smiles as they performed at the Malverne and Lakeview tree lightings!

Congrats to our MHS student athletes who earned awards from the Nassau County Volleyball Coaches Association! Courtney Anderson was awarded All-Conference and Kayleez Rosario took home the Scholar Athlete Award. We are so proud of you both for your dedication to sports and academics and for spreading your spirit of teamwork, fairness and positivity both on and off the court!

The Davison Mitten Tree is going to provide comfort and warmth for members of our community who need it most. Please bring donations of new gloves, hats and scarves to Davison or send them to school with your child. We will make sure they are on the hands and heads of people in need in time for the holidays.

Downing has embraced Malverne's Portrait of a Graduate with a monthly focus aligned to each attribute. October was dedicated to “Digitally Fluent,” and our goal was to align our practices within the school environment to this very important skill. Our students demonstrated Digital Fluency in a variety of ways and were honored at a Portrait of Success Awards Ceremony. Additionally, bulletin boards were created by teachers to honor those students and are proudly on display!

A message of thanks and respect to veterans from our students at Maurice W. Downing Primary School and the entire Malverne school community. On this important day, we thank and honor all veterans for your service and sacrifice to America and the world.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lorna Lewis visited our Universal Pre-K students at Nottingham Academy and Tutor Time of East Rockaway and saw firsthand how this amazing program is preparing our three- and four-year-old children for kindergarten next year. The program, which is led by certified teachers, emphasizes using play for learning and introduces students to the basics of letters, numbers, colors and phonemic awareness. Our students have fun while developing large and fine motor skills and learning essential social values and practices, including sharing, respect and teamwork.

Yesterday was a beautiful day to carve some gourds!
Herber students had fun getting creative, competitive and messy as they took part in the annual pumpkin carving contest.

One of the special moments at this year's Homecoming came when Coach Lockwood took the mic during halftime to honor the memory of Charles Nanton Sr. and to present a plaque to his family who were in attendance. The impact of Coach Nanton's three decades of dedication to the Malverne athletics program and our student athletes cannot be understated and we thank his family for joining us for this ceremony.

Congratulations to our Malverne High School Homecoming King and Queen! We are so proud to announce that Queen Joan Onwuamaegbu and King Nagasi Bailey and their court will be leading tomorrow's Homecoming parade!!! Parade steps off at noon sharp at Clarkson Street and Ocean Avenue. Be there!

So much Malverne Pride on display at Davison today as football players and cheerleaders from the high school hosted a pep rally to get our students excited for Homecoming on Saturday!
