
Liya was at MWD today visiting some of our Kindergarten classes! She is a trained therapy dog and the kids had a blast! We look forward to welcoming her back throughout the school year to visit everyone.

Welcome to Apple Day at Downing! Our kindergartners learned the lifecycle of an apple, parts of an apple, made homemade applesauce and did some fun apple math!





MWD Kindergarten Classes visited the Malverne Fire Department this morning. The students learned how to "stop drop and roll" and were given tours of the Fire House and Fire Trucks. Thank you our local Firefighters!





Downing second grade Student Council president Seraphina Chambliss presents a $450 donation to Mrs. Ruchalski of the Mary Ruchalski Foundation. on behalf of the entire school community who joined together in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

In commemoration of Constitution Day on Sept. 18, Ms. Pawlowski's civic-minded 1st graders at Downing created their our own class constitution!
Each of students contributed to the document and are committed to abiding by the classroom laws that they agreed upon.




Yesterday, our students at Downing and Davison commemorated the anniversary of September 11, 2001 by remembering the lives lost and honoring our heroes for their selfless acts and sacrifices.
The students participated in art projects and discussions about the day so that generations of Americans will never forget.

Superintendent's Conference Day was filled with pride, excitement and even a few tears as the district honored beloved staff members for their dedication and longevity and heard from Class of 2014 alum Dr. Nia Pollard who attributed her success to her Malverne education. Thank you to everyone who took part in today’s sessions. We are excited to kick off the school year tomorrow with enthusiasm, positivity and that unique Malverne spirit!

Our new Downing principal Mr. Walter and the MWD PTA welcomed Malverne's newest kindergartners with a fun playdate on Sept. 17.
It was great to meet all our new Downing families and we are excited to see everyone on Sept. 4 as we start another amazing school year!




Our first and second grade campers learn and play alongside an amazing team of high school students at Camp Curiosity, which is held each summer at Downing.
The students are focused on fun and forging friendships while honing their literacy, math and art skills in a creative and inspiring environment.
