Ms. Brown's kindergartners at Downing are learning about how people lived long ago. During our centers, the students made log cabins, went fishing, made rain sticks and decorated buckskin. Then they compared and contrasted then and now.

After reading the book "Turkey Trouble," our kindergartners disguised their turkeys as a fun art activity so no one can find them!

It's the 50th day of school! Kindergarten students at MWD dressed as if they live in the 1950's. The theme ran throughout all activities and experiences throughout the day! And they went bowling!

Downing has embraced Malverne's Portrait of a Graduate with a monthly focus aligned to each attribute. October was dedicated to “Digitally Fluent,” and our goal was to align our practices within the school environment to this very important skill. Our students demonstrated Digital Fluency in a variety of ways and were honored at a Portrait of Success Awards Ceremony. Additionally, bulletin boards were created by teachers to honor those students and are proudly on display!

A message of thanks and respect to veterans from our students at Maurice W. Downing Primary School and the entire Malverne school community. On this important day, we thank and honor all veterans for your service and sacrifice to America and the world.

Our Downing first graders took a walking field trip to meet Malverne Mayor Sullivan and see the boardroom where the town's business takes place. During the visit, our students got a first-hand lesson on civic engagement and learned about the importance of getting involved with your local government.
