Everyone was proud to show off their green and celebrate the luck of the Irish!

The MWD 1st grade Art Club, led by Mrs. Smyth, created pieces inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe in honor of Women’s History Month.

At MWD, we are proud to display our students' work and celebrate their accomplishments. February was Black History Month, March is Women's History Month, and St. Patrick's Day is approaching soon. Our bulletin boards are bursting with creativity, knowledge and passion.

During Black History Month, second graders at Downing collaborated to create bulletin boards throughout the school featuring facts about famous and influential African Americans throughout history.
To conclude this project, each class walked around to learn more about the impact made by each of this exceptional people and each student chose one person from each board to focus on and write about.
It was a wonderful way to culminate a beautiful ending to Black History Month.

As part of the monthly Portrait of a Graduate recognitions at Downing, students were honored this month for helping others and demonstrating their understanding of how to be culturally responsive.
Families were invited to the We Can and Portrait of Success Awards Ceremony to join in the celebration. We are proud to shine a light on these amazing students who are leading the way with kindness, positivity and are focused on learning about and respecting each other's differences.
Special thanks to our outstanding second grade singers who performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing" to begin each ceremony.

Our amazing students were so happy to participate in this small act of kindness that will help spread love to our heroes.

Happy 100th Day of School!
The students at Downing got in the spirit today by dressing up as 100 year olds to celebrate being 100 days smarter!
The young centenarians were fully in character, complaining about their backs, chatting with their fellow seniors and telling "back in my day" stories!
But today just about being fashionable. The students also took part in fun lessons based on 100, including making necklaces with 100 items, painting by numbers and more!
It was a fun day for all!

On Friday, first graders at Downing made a new furry friend when Liya the therapy dog visited their classrooms.
Liya is specially trained to provide comfort and calmness to everyone she meets. When she's not spending time with our students, Liya is visiting hospitals, senior centers and other places where people need some special warmth and kindness.
Thank you to Aimee, Liya's human, for bringing her to meet our students and for showing us how one special dog can make such an impact on the people around her.

The Downing Explore class show off their smiles as they learn about the importance of keeping their teeth clean and healthy and practice their numbers! The students played a game matching the number rolled to the number on the tooth - covering the tooth with a pieces of play-dough. So much fun!
