Congratulations to MHS senior Nicea Jones who was awarded the "Leaders of Tomorrow" award at the Armory Hispanic Games in New York City this past weekend!
She also competed in the Invitational 400 meter sprint, running a time of 54.87.
Nicea is currently ranked #1 in New York State in the 400m and #2 in Country!!!
On Dec. 19, Malverne School District was honored to host the Key of Hope South African Choir for performances at Maurice W. Downing Primary School, Davison Avenue Intermediate School and Malverne High School.
The Key of Hope Choir consists of singers aged 12-27 who live in Durban, South Africa, an extremely impoverished village where most families don’t even have the yearly fee of $175 that it cost to send their kids to school. Key of Hope helps families find their way out of poverty, helping enroll the children in school, keeping them safe from crime and oppression and engaging them in music and arts.
The performances for students and faculty included traditional holiday songs, as well as songs in their native Zulu language. At the high school, the choir also performed popular songs from U2 and Foreigner.
The visit was both energizing and inspiring and we are so thankful to the choir members and Key of Hope team for coming to Malverne and sharing their songs and spirit with our students.
We are proud to congratulate Gabrielle Augustin, Makayla Boubert, Coleene Elias and Coralie Mitton who were honored at last night's the annual Kwanzaa Celebration hosted by the Office of Minority Affairs. Last night's theme was "Be a Beacon of Light for a Brighter Future" and our students were recognized for their inspirational efforts to uplift our community. Qualifications to be considered for this honor are 90 + GPA, community involvement, and excellency in leadership. #GreatnessUnleashed

Courtney Anderson was awarded All-Conference and Kayleez Rosario took home the Scholar Athlete Award. We are so proud of you both for your dedication to sports and academics and for spreading your spirit of teamwork, fairness and positivity both on and off the court!
Congratulations to seniors Joshua Ferriera and Nicea Jones on being awarded the Outstanding Physical Education Student of the Year award by the Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD).
Joshua and Nicea were each presented the award at a ceremony at New Hyde Park Inn on Dec. 9.
This recognition is awarded annually to students who demonstrate leadership skills, responsible personal and social behavior and exceptional achievements in Physical Education programs.
NYS AHPERD is an association committed to providing leadership and quality services to health, physical education, recreation, and dance professionals and future professionals.

The Young Explorers visited The Little Lotus of Lynbrook for an hour of mindful yoga, where participants practiced new yoga poses, learned positive affirmations, and explored mindfulness techniques.

One of the special moments at this year's Homecoming came when Coach Lockwood took the mic during halftime to honor the memory of Charles Nanton Sr. and to present a plaque to his family who were in attendance. The impact of Coach Nanton's three decades of dedication to the Malverne athletics program and our student athletes cannot be understated and we thank his family for joining us for this ceremony.
