Congratulations to Howard T. Herber Middle School science teacher Shannon Kelly who was presented with the SAAWA Distinguished Teacher Award for her outstanding dedication and service in the field of STEM education.
This prestigious award is presented annually to an educator who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to inspiring and empowering students, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Thank you, Ms. Kelly, for your dedication to Malverne students!

Our budding visual artists at Herber are creating artwork in the style of painter Lois Mailou Jones that is inspired by their culture, goals and interests.
The students started by brainstorming a list of elements that are significant in their lives that they would consider including in their artwork. Then, they got to work designing their painting on canvas before sketching the personal elements and incorporating them into the design.

On April 7, all twenty-five eighth grade students in the HTH science research program competed in the Long Island Science Congress.
Over 900 students from grades 7-9 converged on the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City to present more than 600 individually designed and executed projects. Results from the competition will be released in the coming weeks and an awards ceremony will be held on June 13.

Save the date!
It’s Full STEAM ahead at Malverne UFSD STEAM Night!
Thursday, April 24 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Malverne High School.
Students of all ages can engage in chemistry, biology and physical science experiments, as well as math games, science-themed crafts and more.

The district wishes our Malverne community, families, friends, students and colleagues Eid Mubarak!

On Tuesday, all 24 budding scientists in HTH's 8th grade science research course competed in the South Asian American Women's Alliance Middle School Science Fair!
Results will be announced soon and we wish all our students the best of luck!

Congratulations to our HTH Middle School girls basketball team on their undefeated season!

Congratulations to the nineteen students from Ms. Kelly's eighth grade Science Research class at HTH who participated in the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF) Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovation Challenge at Crest Hollow Country Club!

Science scholars in Ms. Kelly's Biology class at Herber study the relationship between DNA and chromosomes in our cells.

This collaboration is music to our ears!
Before the break, Malverne High School students musicians worked together with middle school students from Herber as they prepare for their NYSSMA auditions. The older students shared their experience with the audition process, as well as their musical knowledge, with the younger students.

Before the break, Mr. Gerardi and Mrs. Ryan's 7th grade science scholars at Herber participated in the Egg Drop Challenge!
The students worked hard to engineer devices that safely transport an egg from the third story classroom window to the pavement below. This project was the culmination of units on forces and planetary exploration.
Congratulations to our winners Kendell and Jillian and the runners up Gregory and Daniella!

Mr Kuehn had a great time being on the latest episode of HTH live!

A big thank you to Mr. Fuentes about his amazing MADD presentation to the 7th grader today!.

The incredible cast of Once Upon a Mattress from HTH took the show on the road today and entertained the residents of Atria Park of Lynbrook.
The students were thrilled to perform this exclusive encore presentation and the audience couldn't get enough of their spectacular singing and dancing! After the show, everyone was excited to get together for some photos!
Thank you, Atria Park of Lynbrook, for your warm welcome, smiles and applause. It was a pleasure for our students to perform for you!

Ms. Renna has successfully completed the “Beautiful Me - Self Esteem Rising” program and is excited to begin the “Building Champions” program soon. An email with more details will be sent to parents shortly.

The 7th Grade had a fantastic time at Maple Lanes! What a way to build relationships over pizza, snacks, and strikes!

Mr. Gerardi and Mrs. Ryan's 7th grade science scholars at HTH are working on their egg drop science project.
The students are designing and engineering devices that will allow them to drop an egg out of their 3rd floor window and have it make a safe landing on the sidewalk below.
We look forward to watching as these future engineers test out their creative concepts!

The community is cordially invited to the district's annual MLK Celebration, Thursday night at 7:00 PM at the Howard T. Herber Auditorium.
This year’s celebration has unique significance as we approach the 60th anniversary of MLK’s historic visit to Malverne on May 11, 1965, a key moment in the fight to desegregate schools in the United States.
K-12 students from throughout the district will be presenting their tributes to MLK through poetry, music, dance and video presentations while expressing their understanding of and dedication to his teachings and his messages of resilience, perseverance and hope.
We will also be recognizing two exemplary members of our community and honoring them with the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. This year’s honorees are Malverne UFSD District Supervisor of STEM Ms. Florence Balay and Ms. Norma Britt, a dedicated member of the Malverne Schools community.
The event is free and open to the public. We hope to see everyone there!

The reviews are in! HTH's Once Upon a Mattress was a huge success! Incredible. Breathtaking. Hilarious. Critics give it 2 thumbs up. The entire school community is so proud of the entire cast and crew! BRAVO!

Students in the 8th grade Science Research class at Howard T. Herber are hard at work completing experimental trials in preparation for competition season. Months of preparatory work, from exploring the fundamentals of research to selecting topics and designing experiments led to this point.
