Art Club

Members of this club can practice the arts and focus on their individual skills. Students experiment with different mediums and express their creativity.

Athletes Assisting Athletes

Athletes Assisting Athletes is a tutoring program designed to assist athletes who are struggling academically. The tutors meet once a week with their students and review progress and work specifically on building academic strengths and study skills.

Black Studies

The purpose of this club is to provide information to its members encourages them to understand and appreciate the cultural differences existing in a multicultural student body. Members of the club engage in discussions, video presentations, lectures, host guest speakers, and workshops. The club runs a Kwanzaa Celebration, Apollo Night, Talent Show, field trips and a college tour.

Community Service

This club conducts charity drives, community projects, and actively seeks ways to serve the school and general community. The club involves itself in seasonal charity projects, Toys For Tots, etc. as well as becoming involved in local community projects.

Competitive Gaming

This club highlights the more advanced mechanics of gaming producing higher performances and levels in video gaming while exploring multiple genres. 

Advisor: Mr. Link 

Competitive Scholars

Members of this club will compete in a range of activities from the STEM field to history & geography, spelling, and much more.

Color Guard

The color guard performs flag routines in conjunction with the marching band. The corps performs in parades, football half-time shows, and various competitions in the Tri-State area.

Drum Corps

This group prepares drummers for several performances during the year. They perform with the marching band at parades and football games. They also perform at the district open house, as well as all Pep Rallies.

GIRLs

GIRLs is a group founded to serve the young ladies of Malverne High School. Our mission is to cultivate our girls into young leaders and role models at a critical time in their lives when they transition into adulthood. Our goal is to bring about self-confidence among our girls, raising awareness of social issues, promoting volunteerism, building a network of local affiliates, while creating a forum for their voices to be heard. MHS GIRLs is about Growing Into Responsible Leaders/Ladies who will exemplify the virtues of a woman.

LGBT (Gay Straight Alliance Club)

The Gay Straight Alliance Club offers a support group to teens and educates students in creating a school environment where students learn to appreciate and respect differences in people. Activities include: A Day of Silence, Bully Awareness Month, Pride and LGBT History Month. 

Advisor: Mr. Mach 

Literacy/Book Club

This club will explore literacy with a focus on comparative litera-ture and aesthetic judgment. Students will read poetry, drama, and fiction, and would meet to discuss and share interpretations of their readings. Students would also research literacy criticism and interpretations by noted persons in the academic and literacy world.

Marching Band

The marching band is a group of instrumental musicians who generally perform outdoors, and who incorporate some type of marching with their musical performance. In addition to traditional parade performances, we perform field shows at special events (such as football games) or at competitions, in addition to any “pep rally” duties, that implement many of the songs, traditions, and flair from outside performances.

Media

The purpose of the Malverne Mules Media Club is to record and live stream all sporting events, concerts and special presentations to YouTube using our 4K camera equipment. Each scheduled team is responsible for setting up the equipment before the event, recording the event, “Tweeting” out a hyperlink for the stream and cleaning up the equipment when the event is over.

Model U.N.

The mission of the Model U.N. club is to engage students in the debates and issues of the world. Students will learn to debate, overcome their fear of public speaking, attend competitions, and attain real world business skills.

Musical (Drama Club)/Stage Crew

The musical offers a lot of opportunities. It takes many people to make each year’s musical successful. Each year, we hold auditions for singers, dancers, and actors to be part of the musical. If you are shy about being on stage, you can work behind the scenes with stage managing, costumes, make-up, hair, set de-sign, set painting, lights, sound, and stage crew.

National Honor Society

Member chapter of the National Honor Society. Membership in this club is by election only. Members are chosen by a board of faculty members chaired by the advisor of the honor society. Members are encouraged to perform community service and must submit monthly logs of service to the advisor.

Robotics Club

Students design and build a robot to be entered in competitions. The robots will feature pneumatics, electronics, and mechanics in its construction.

Science Olympiads

The Science Olympiads are a team competition where students compete in events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. Teamwork is a required skill in most scientific careers today, and Science Olympiad encourages group learning by designing events that forge alliances.

Select Choir Fall/ Spring (*Show Choir*)

Select Choir is for students who excel in singing, and wish to be part of a more advanced singing ensemble. Select Choir sings every year at the Malverne Christmas Tree Lighting, “Music in our schools” month performance in Albany, as well as other possible competitions throughout the year. This choir is also featured in the winter and spring concerts at MHS. This group also takes trips to go see Broadway shows, and other performances in NYC. The choir has rehearsals twice a week. Select Choir is open by audition only. Auditions are the first week of classes.

Service Learning Club 

Modeled after the Molloy College Energeia for Teens program, students will participate in a project-based learning initiative. Team building and reflective practices will be developed by participating in a community service project involving experimental learning. These experiences will help students gain a deeper understanding of social needs. They will develop the skills necessary to become civic-minded young leaders.

Spoken Word

This club is a space where students, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, or socioeconomic backgrounds, can come together and express themselves creatively, freely, and emotionally while simultaneously being active members in their school’s community through the use of words. Spoken Word Poetry Club will bring young writers and poets together and motivate them to branch out and explore different means of writing and expression! Students share their thoughts and use their imagination. They can engage others with word play, intense imagery & self-expression, collaborate, write, speak &, show who they are.

Strength & Conditioning

This program is designed to improve the overall fitness of each participant. Members utilize a combination of stretching, calisthenics, aerobic exercises, and universal weight training. The club meets two days per week and throughout the summer.

Student Government

Elected students meet to bring student concerns to the administration and to provide the framework for communication between faculty and the students. This group conducts student elections.

Student Response Club/Nerd Nite

This club conducts several “Nerd Nite” activity nights throughout the school year. Video gaming, board games, chess and other game activities are available for the members. Students also explore literature, movies, and other media in a group setting. Students can interact with other students who share the same interest.

Tri-M (National Music Honor Society)

Tri-M is a nationally recognized organization for students who excel in music, as well as their other classes. Students must be in either H.S. Chorus or H.S. Band for one year before being recommended for Tri-M, as well as participation in the NYSSMA Festival. Tri-M performs in the community, decorates for con- certs, ushers the concerts and musical, and does fundraising for the music department. Tri-M is perfect for students who love music, and show leadership and responsibility. Students must be recommended by their music teacher in order to be included.

Vex Robotics

Members learn the basic skills needed to design robot with programming, fabrications and mechanics with the aide of senior mentors. Teams will prototype, build and test robots. Robots will be entered in local competition.

World Language Club

This club will focus on exploring languages and cultures other than English speaking societies. The club will concern itself with cultural events and aspects of language immersion in Italian and Spanish. The club’s goal is to foster an appreciation of the non-English speaking world.

Yearbook

The yearbook has four areas in which students can participate; the sale of ads and books, the taking of pictures, the layout of the book and the literary information that accompanies the pho- tos. The students must attend meetings but can also do work on the book from any home computer. Deadlines are staggered throughout Sept. and March .

Young Explorers

This group exposes students to unique experiences and educa- tional opportunities outside of the school setting. The hope is that these opportunities will strengthen their educational founda- tion and hopefully ignite interest in new things. This club will utilize school busses on weekends to minimize costs and ensure that class time is not impacted. Possible trips include: Museum of Natural History, Tour of Harlem, Broadway Show, South Street Seaport & the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island.
