Please join us for an important Parent Academy to learn about Erin’s Law, recent NYSED legislation that requires schools to provide age-appropriate, sexual abuse prevention curriculum, to ALL students K-8.

Parent Academy:  Wednesday, March 29, 2023 @ 7pm in the MPAC

Ms. Lorraine DiFiglia, Assistant Director, CAPS, of The Safe Center LI, will present Safe Center services in addition to sharing curriculum details we are required to present to our Malverne K-8 students.  We are proud to announce our recent partnership with The Safe Center of Long Island, a non-profit organization located in Bethpage, N.Y.  The Safe Center provides free and confidential services for victims of abuse and assault and their non-offending family members.

We invite you to join us for this in-depth review of K-8 curriculum developed by The Safe Center. NYSED mandates curriculum must relate to sexual abuse prevention, which may include a variety of discussions, activities, videos, and role play scenarios.  The Safe Center LI provides trained, experienced instructors who conduct these student workshops and place emphasis on the premise; Children have the right not to be hurt.

Student workshops are designed to be developmentally appropriate to target grades K-4, grades 5-6 and grades 7-8 respectively.  The goal for each workshop is to introduce young students to the issue of child sex abuse in an easy-to-understand, non-threatening way.

Specific content covered with your children includes:

* They are in charge of their body especially private areas covered by a bathing suit.
* They can say” NO” to unwanted touches and behavior.
* To tell an adult they trust if someone makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
* There is a difference between good and bad secrets.
* An understanding of different types of harm and abuse

Child abuse and neglect is one of the most serious issues that children face today!

The Safe Center LI is committed to protecting children through awareness prevention, and education.

We hope to see you on Wednesday, March 29, 7:00pm @ MPAC
